A new version of the European energy label, which now ranges from classes A to G, will appear from March on household appliances to better guide consumers towards inexpensive products, Ademe said Tuesday.
Refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, televisions …
These are four categories of equipment: refrigerators / freezers / cabinets, washing machines, dishwashers, and televisions / screens.
For bulbs, the new label will appear in September. Ratings from A to G will replace the current displays that ranged from A +++ to D.
For the other product groups (air conditioners, dryers, vacuum cleaners, water heaters, etc.), the new labels will be implemented from 2022.
Since the creation of the label by the EU in 1995, there have been multiple class changes to accommodate better product performance, and these changes, including the addition of classes A + to A +++, left it less clear, explains Ademe, the Ecological Transition Agency.
A QR code to access the information by scanning the products.
In addition to the rating scale, this new version will be accompanied by a “QR code” that will allow access to a product database: by scanning it with their smartphone, consumers will be able to obtain additional technical information. Non-commercial nature, supplied by the manufacturers.
By choosing more efficient equipment, European households could save an average of 150 euros per year, according to EU statistics.
This label also pushes manufacturers to “always do better”, say the authorities: the new class A, very demanding, does not correspond to any product currently on the market.
