There will be no more plastic toys at Happy Meals

It’s the end of an era. McDonald’s announced Wednesday that it would no longer offer plastic toys at its Happy Meal, the famous children’s menus.

Instead, the fast food chain will offer a book, a coloring book or a cardboard toy, reports BFMTV.

This decision follows a petition, launched by two 9- and 7-year-old girls, Ella and Caitlin, who asked McDonald’s to no longer offer children toys made from this environmentally harmful material on their menus.

It is also a way to anticipate the entry into force of the “circular economy” law in 2022, which will ban plastic toys from children’s menus.

Some 3,000 tons of plastic should be saved per year, the brand says.
