Check traffic conditions before leaving home with up-to-date traffic snapshots provided by the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation (GDOT).
The GDOT recently announced upgrades to the Gwinnett County Smart Commute program which include the addition of traffic cameras and a new look for the GC Smart Commute website.
Visitors to the site may view snapshots of current traffic conditions throughout different areas of the county. Snapshots are updated every two minutes. Live video feeds are available on TVGwinnett weekdays from 6:30-8:30 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.
The GC Smart Commute network currently consists of 188 closed-circuit cameras along 186 miles of fiber optic communication cable. An additional 88 Georgia DOT cameras are linked to the system. There are 16 additional camera locations under construction -- 10 on State Route 324/Gravel Springs Road between Highway 20 and Dacula Road and six on Dacula Road between Winder Highway and SR 324 -- and plans for the installation of 34 more over the next two years.
Current northern Gwinnett camera locations include multiple intersections along Buford Drive including at I-85, Mall of Georgia Boulevard, Woodward Crossing Boulevard, Gravel Springs Road, I-985, South Lee Street, the Braves Stadium and more.
"We're glad to offer more information for residents through GC Smart Commute," said Department of Transportation Director Kim Conroy in a released statement. "Thanks to these enhancements, Gwinnett motorists can use GC Smart Commute to customize what they see based on their intended travel routes and plan accordingly."
