A woman is dead and a man is in custody after an early morning shooting in a Hoschton subdivision.
Gwinnett County Police were called to the Platinum Court home around 4:35 a.m. on May 28 by a 13-year-old female who advised her mother had been shot. GCPD Public Information Officer Cpl. Jake Smith said neighbors also reported hearing gunshots
Upon arrival in the subdivision -- which is located off Mineral Springs Road near the equestrian entrance to Little Mulberry Park -- police encountered an adult male standing in the road and acting erratically.
"Based on the circumstances, they took him into custody and additional officers proceeded all the way to the end of the road where the incident location was," Smith said.
Inside the home, they located an adult female who had been shot several times. The woman, according to police, is believed to have died as a result of the gunshot wounds. The 13-year-old was uninjured.
The man taken into custody is the husband of the victim and the father of the 13-year-old. He was transported to a hospital for evaluation and is the primary suspect in the case. He will remain in custody, Smith added.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Melissa Kimsey. The suspect has been identified as Rodney Kimsey II, 31. According to Smith, police have not had any prior interactions with the couple.
