Gwinnett County firefighters were dispatched shortly after 4 p.m. on Feb. 28 to a woods fire in the 2800 block of Old Auburn Road in Dacula. The fire, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services public information officer Lt. Colin Rhoden, affected an area of 12-20 acres.
"Crews arrived to the scene and entered the woods to attempt to contain and control the fire spread in the heavily wooded area. The fire spread under power lines and was threatening adjacent unaffected areas," Rhoden said in a released statement.
Georgia Forestry was called to assist with cutting fire breaks to slow the spread of the fire.
"An abandoned house and shed had fire around it but were protected by the efforts of firefighters," Rhoden added.
The railway was alerted as a precaution due to the possibility of heavy smoke in the area of the railroad tracks.
