Firefighters were dispatched to the Buford residence at 4:41 p.m. after a caller reported seeing smoke and fire coming from the back of the two-story, split level home. Fire crews arrived at the scene seven minutes later and found the house fully involved in flames. Fire crews mounted an aggressive exterior fire attack and had the blaze under control by 5:17 p.m.
According to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services Public Information Officer Lt. Colin Rhoden, the home is a total loss after sustaining heavy fire and structural damage. The vinyl siding of an adjacent home was also damaged by radiant heat from the fire.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature.
