A Buford couple and their dog escaped a Feb. 5 house fire unharmed, but their Chatham Crest Lane home is a total loss, according to Gwinnett County fire officials.
“Crews arrived to find heavy fire showing from the back of a two-story wood frame house on a slab,” the press release stated. “The occupants, husband and wife and their small dog, were already outside-safe when the fire department arrived and no injuries were reported.”
Firefighters blame wind for the rapid spread of flames throughout the house. Crews were forced to battle the blaze from outside due to the intense fire conditions and the partial collapse of the roof.
The home is a total loss due to the damage, officials said.
The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, but is believed to have been accidental.
