A Dacula woman is $1 million richer after playing the Georgia Lottery instant game 50X The Money.
According to lottery officials, Kelly Bronaugh, 39, stopped to purchase a Coke and a lottery ticket at the Sams Mart #0513 in Snellville while on her lunch break.
“My birthday was earlier in the week, and someone had given me a $20 gift card,” she explained, according to a press release from the Georgia Lottery. “I work in a medical office, and I scratched it while at my desk.”
Describing the experience as "pure shock," Bronaugh had to ask a co-worker if the win was real.
“I started screaming then everyone else started screaming,” she said.
Bronaugh said she intends to pay off bills with her winnings.
In the 50X The Money game, players scratch off the entire play area. If any numbers match those in the winning numbers area, the player wins 50 times the prize shown for that symbol. Overall odds of winning a prize in 50x The Money are 1 in 3.29.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery has returned more than $15 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Pre-K program.
