Dacula City Councilman Greg Reeves was released from jail late Sunday evening after being arrested on March 7 on a charge of theft by taking.
According to Gwinnett County Detention Center records, Reeves was released on March 9 at 10:53 p.m. Bond was listed as $11,200.
According to Dacula Mayor Jimmy Wilbanks, the charge stems from Reeves' alleged misuse of a city-issued credit card. The misuse reportedly included using the card to pay for a rental car Reeves used in his job as a pizza deliveryman. The improper charges total approximately $3,600.
Wilbanks said the problem began last autumn and that he had been working with Reeves to resolve the issue.
"I knew about it. I was trying to work with Greg to make sure he understood what the policy was," Wilbanks said.
Reeves, who ran unopposed during the last election, began a new term of office in January 2014. As of Monday morning, March 10, Reeves had not yet tendered his resignation.
"Nobody know how bad I hate this for Greg and the city," Wilbanks said.
The case is being handled by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.
