A gas station may not be the first place that pops into your mind when you are trying to decide where to grab a bite to eat, but the folks at QuikTrip are hoping to change that.
Recently, QT locations nationwide have been undergoing renovations to add QT Kitchens. The newer stores, such as the QT on Jesse Jewel Parkway in Gainesville, were built with a QT Kitchen. Older stores are being retrofitted. The Hamilton Mill QT Kitchen opened in May and, according to a store employee, renovations at the QT at Buford Drive and I-85 near the Mall of Georgia were completed last week.
Mike Thornbrugh, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for QuikTrip, said the convenience store chain currently has 51 locations in the Atlanta area with full-service counters and 10 other locations that are either being built or in the remodeling stage.
The idea is to provide store customers with hot, fresh, made-to-order food in addition to the store's traditional offerings.
QT Kitchens customers place their orders at a computer kiosk. The touch-screen menu walks users through the various customization options.
According to Thornbrough, all of the menu offerings have performed well, but the pretzels in particular have been a "huge success." The soft pretzels come in three varieties: classic, parmesan and cinnamon sugar. Each pretzel is served with a dipping sauce. Hot melted cheese, marinara sauce and melted icing (for the cinnamon sugar pretzels) are available.
Thornbrough said the chain plans to add additional menu items in the future.
Currently, there are three QT Kitchens in northern Gwinnett County:
Other QT Kitchens are located in Lawrenceville and Suwanee.
