The Kia Racing team, based in Buford, recently made its third trip to Long Beach, Calif. for an ocean-side street circuit race.
The "Roar by the Shore" race, sponsored by Kia Motors America (KMA), was held April 13 on a 1.968-mile, 11-turn concrete canyon course.
Kia Racing fielded two cars -- the No. 36 DonorsChoose.org vehicle (driven by Nic Jonsson) and the No. 38 B.R.A.K.E.S. car (driven by Mark Wilkins). According to a post on the Kinetic Motorsports Racing page, Jonsson picked up his first win of the season and Wilkins finished third.
"Kia's involvement in motorsports helps demonstrate the quality, durability and performance of our vehicles, highlighting the turbocharged Optima and enhancing our brand reputation among customers, dealers, KMA team members and fans," said Michael Sprague, executive vice president of sales and marketing, KMA, in a released statement.
Tape-delayed television coverage of the race takes place on Sunday, April 20, on the NBC Sports Network.
