Concerned about what he describes as a "dangerous" intersection, a Buford resident has created a petition on Change.org asking the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to install a traffic light at the intersection of Lena Carter Road and Braselton Highway.
"This intersection is dangerous without a traffic signal," petitioner Stephen Davis wrote. "SR124 (Braselton Hwy.) is a major thoroughfare and Lena Carter Road is the access road to Mountain View High School as well as for buses taking children to/from Twin Rivers Middle School. Many of the drivers are inexperienced teenagers. Also some of the more experienced adult drivers make dangerous turns including a school bus carrying handicapped children."
According to a statement accompanying the Change.org petition, GDOT has indicated traffic at the intersection does not warrant a signal.
"We have been begging the Georgia Dept. of Transportation (GDOT) for a traffic signal here and they always tell us that there isn't enough traffic to justify it," Davis wrote. "Yet when they do the traffic count it is done over the Christmas/Winter break or during the summer months when the schools are closed."
"Please help us protect our children and ourselves and sign this petition," Davis concluded.
