Registration is now open for the Dacula Miss Memorial Day pageant.
The pageant, open to girls from six months to 21 years of age, will be held May 3 at 9 a.m. in the grand hall at the Hamilton Mill Golf Club, located at 1776 Hamilton Mill Parkway in Dacula. The deadline for entries is April 28.
This year, the pageant will crown 14 queens in seven age divisions and award seven special titles including Miss Patriotism. The highest scoring contestant will receive a $200 cash award.
The Dacula Memorial Day Parade, now in its 21st year, will be held on May 26. The theme for this year's parade is "Courage, Sacrifice, Freedom." Marine Staff Sgt. Reckless, Korean War hero horse, will be honored during the parade.
"The 21st Annual Dacula Memorial Day parade theme pays honor to those men, women and animals that paid the ultimate sacrifice with their service and courage to protect our freedom," according to parade founder Marvin Atherton.
The last call for walk-up registration for the 2014 Miss Dacula pageant will be held on March 14, from 5-8 p.m. at Dacula High School in the old art room.
The early registration fee is $65. After March 14, the price increases to $100. Details are available on the Miss Dacula pageant website.
